Benefits

GI-MAP (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) is a type of functional pathology test that evaluates gut health by analyzing a stool sample. The test measures various aspects of gut function, including the presence of bacteria, viruses, parasites, yeast, and markers of inflammation and gut integrity.

The results of a GI-MAP test can be used to:

Evaluate the diversity and balance of the gut microbiome, which plays a key role in digestive function and overall health.
Identify overgrowths of harmful bacteria, such as Clostridium difficile or H. pylori, which can cause digestive symptoms or other health problems.
Detect the presence of harmful parasites, such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium, that can cause digestive symptoms.
Monitor changes in the gut microbiome over time, which can provide insight into the effectiveness of treatment or lifestyle changes.

GI-MAP results can be used to guide personalized treatment and dietary recommendations, such as probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary changes, to support gut health. However, it's important to note that the interpretation of GI-MAP results can be complex. If you are considering a GI-MAP, it's important to discuss the potential benefits and limitations with your healthcare provider and to interpret the results in the context of your overall health and medical history.

Who should consider doing a GI-MAP™ stool test?
The test is ideal for those suffering from digestive complaints such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, reflux, stomach pain, irritable bowel, and inflammatory bowel conditions. This test is also valuable for those suffering hormonal imbalances as the test measures Beta glucuronidase which can affect the detoxification of estrogen, leading to estrogen-dominant conditions.

The GI-Map test also aims to get an extensive collection of microbial targets and digestive and immune markers, making it a huge help for those who have or are suspecting that they have autoimmune disorders and chronic ailments. If you’re experiencing anxiety or depression this can be strongly influenced by your gut bacteria, research suggests the gut has a strong influence on brain health.

As this is a simple stool test, it can be done at any age, from children to the elderly.

Preparation

Clients must follow their usual diet prior to collecting a stool specimen. The stool specimen must be collected in the morning, where possible or the first bowel movement of the day. If you are currently taking antibiotics, only proceed with this collection two weeks after you have completed the course of probiotic therapy. Natural laxatives can be used if constipation is a problem. This includes herbal and nutritional supplements. Do not use pharmaceutical laxatives as these medications can alter test results.
